Ramsbottom v Foxes

The Foxes braved the cold this morning and travelled to a tricky away game against Ramsbottom.
A beautiful drag back and through ball from Jamie sent Harvey on his way to tap into the bottom corner.
Jamie then created space for himself before curling a beautiful post and in from the edge of the box.
Corey, James, Lucas and Jacob were determined to not let anything past them today and with Sam, Taylor and Josh controlling midfield, we looked comfortable.
Charlie raced away for number 3….. Once Charlie puts on the thrusters, you’re not catching him.
Sam hit a good free kick for 4-0.
We’ve been working hard recently to tighten up at the back and with 2 clean sheets in the last 2 games Harry’s extra training is starting to show.
Well done Foxes, still top of the league.

AJFC Foxes 6-0 Oxford Grove

With last weeks game postponed, The Foxes were desperate to play knowing a win could take them top….. again.
We welcomed Oxford Grove and after the last meeting (2-2) we expected a difficult game. The first 15 minutes were a struggle as we had them pinned in their own half but it meant we were playing against 8 defenders. Despite us trying to play, we couldn’t get past the orange and black wall.
We made a quadruple sub with the subs giving messages to the other players…..shoot from distance.
Josh McDermott who has been playing exceptional in recent weeks obliged with a thunderbolt for the opener. This seemed to make the team click. 5 minutes later Charlie Simm took a rebound neatly before Harvey Browns instinctive rebounded finish made it 3-0 by half time. Our defenders had little to do in the first half but we expected them to come out fighting.
We mixed it up a little in the second half to try and kill the game, reducing the need for 4 defenders, we went for the 4th goal and Henry Williams, following another rebounded shot had it in the back of the net with a quick reaction to beat the defender to the ball.
Jamie Blake beautifully slotted home an individual effort at an angle for 5 and we knew the game was won so we switched players around and gave defenders a chance up front but it was a sublime through ball from Jamie that sent Taylor on his way who wasn’t going to miss as he slotted home for 6 in the final minute.
Harry Smith took player of the match as we had not managed a clean sheet for what feels like ages but he remained focus and pulled off some good saves in the second half to see a very comfortable win for the Foxes.

AJFC FOXES 4-2 MOSS BANK

The Foxes welcomed Moss Bank on this cold and damp November morning knowing a win today could see them go top of the league.

The Foxes started strong with an intense high press and Josh McDermott, a summer signing who normally plays in defence scored his first Foxes goal after just 9 minutes with a lovely break away move.

10 minutes later,  he was at it again with a similar goal following some great defensive work from a rare Moss Bank attack.

The half time whistle went and the Foxes,  not only winning 2-0 but had completely controlled the match and not had to defend a shot on target.

The second half started with a bit of confusion over our substitutions which led to a quick fire double from Moss Bank to leave the game 2-2 and now they were on top!

A few tweaks and we started to regain composure and twinkle toe Taylor sat down a couple of players as he put us ahead in the 40th minute.  The final 10 minutes was evenly matched but Josh,  who impressed in a cameo midfield role last week,  showed why he deserved his midfield place today with a last minute free kick finding the back of the net.

The result leaves the Foxes level at the top on 18 points!

Hindsford JFC v AJFC Foxes

The Foxes were hoping to continue their strong start to the season and were looking to create a 7 point gap between them and 3rd place with an away trip to Hindsford.

Hindsford have proved to be a bit of a bogey team for the Foxes with 3 defeats in the last 3 meetings.

The pitch was coned out and with a kit clash,  we donned our bibs and took to the field. In typical Foxes fashion recently,  we started slow and conceded an early goal from a corner.  Josh was brought on from the bench and his determination to win every ball lifted some of the other players and Henry nodded home a corner as he was left unmarked.

Half time seemed to lift Hindsford and within minutes of the restart they took the lead again.  We made several switches and subs throughout the second half but couldn’t make anything stick and seemed to be missing something…… possibly luck.

We pushed and pushed but we’re caught on the break to fall 3-1 with 15 minutes to go.  Those 15 minutes were all Foxes as they hammered the Hindsford goal and from another positive move we got a corner that James swung in. The keeper tried to catch it but spilled the ball over the line and the Foxes were at it again from the whistle – tails up! We peppered that goal but couldn’t get the equaliser as Hindsford managed out the final few minutes to be just 1pt behind us in the table.

We go into the break now to rest and come back ready to go again!

Up next,  MossBank who have struggled in the early weeks of the season and we should have a full strength team back ready to play.
